The site has preserved 70-years worth of noteworthy moments in history. This meant that the design has to allow for the information to be presented compactly and attractively in a chronological timeline so that users will be compelled to browse through them.
The site has preserved 70-years worth of noteworthy moments in history. This meant that the design has to allow for the information to be presented compactly and attractively in a chronological timeline so that users will be compelled to browse through them.
The site also has the dual purpose of requesting and crowdsourcing for relevant memories from the general public. To achieve this, we were required to make the submission form easily accessible and simple so that users will be encouraged to participate. The site also has to be able to showcase the submitted information prominently to let the users know that their contribution was invaluable.

Frontend Website Design
To present 70-years worth of heritage information in a compact and attractive manner, we incorporated animations, micro-interactions, and programming to create an interactive timeline and memory grid.

The interactive timeline allows users to easily scroll through milestones from 1949 to 2019

Each year is represented by a relevant image and an accompanying interactive hotspot, which users can click on for more details about the selected year

The memory grid is made up of alternating videos, images, and the corresponding names of persons of interests. This makes up a colourful patchwork of memories which can effectively showcase any organisational and crowdsourced content

Custom CMS Design, Development & Deployment
As the site is inherently content-focused, we knew that it was necessary to design a CMS that will allow the folks at the Singapore Red Cross to easily manage said content anytime, anywhere. This includes:

Allowing admins to view, edit, add, and remove each of the 70 years’ content on the interactive timeline

Offering intuitive moderation capabilities for crowdsourced ‘memories’ submitted by the general public, to ensure that the content is acceptable and ready to be published on the site

Web Security & Auto-Backup
The final step is to prepare the site for any unforeseen circumstances, such as security breaches and server crashes. For this, we put in place security measures, ran tests and implemented fixes to ensure that the site was safe from future breaches:

An external security expert was brought in to run a penetration test, which is used to check if the site can be easily breached by hackers

Further security fixes were further implemented based on the results of the test to ensure that it is fully safeguarded

Additionally, we implemented daily auto-backup capabilities on the site so that there is always a recent copy that we can roll back on in the event of any server crashes.
